Is Krylon’s new H20 latex spray paint really safe to use on a baby crib?

I’m looking to change the light stained look of my baby crib to white and am looking for the best way to do it. I like the idea of spray paint because it usually creates a smooth surface with less chance of chipping off if the baby tries to chew on the crib bars. But I wonder is it really safe or is there very little difference between paint that you roll on and spray on.

The Krylon H20 latex spray paint claims to be not only more resistant to chipping as compared to other brands on the market, but it is also much lower VOC’s than solvent spray paints. It is also low odor, and fast drying making it certainly a better choice than what is currently available on the market by comparison. It would also provide a more even coat than rolling on, making it safer than rolling it or brushing it. The real issue here is the importance of whether or not the crib is older and has lead. If it is not that old of a crib, then there really is not risk of lead. Additionally, make sure the crib is not chipping in any areas as well. Babies will put their mouths on anything, however it is also believed that really there is no difference of a new non-lead paint vs. Krylon when dealing with this issue. Many people have asked if cribs can be painted and if it is safe to do, the answer given is yes if no pre-existing lead is there, and no pre-existing chipping paint. It really comes down to current condition and age of crib that matters most to do this. If crib is newer. no lead. no chipping paint then it can be done.They do however recommend spraying crib outside and not putting baby back in crib for a couple days after painting, just in case noxious fumes have not dissipated from crib body yet. It is also suggested to get a teething rail and to place bumper down low to prevent baby from chewing while laying down. Non-toxic (no lead) and low VOC are really important, as well as following all baby crib safety standards like less than 2.4 inches of space betwween slats, no cut out designs at headboard or footboard,no corner posts, and that crib meets all current requirements. Be careful to check for any overspray and any drips and correct for safety.
